Introduction to RP
Whilst it is not essential to be a roleplayer to be a member of Kar Khadath, many of us are, and we encourage guild members to participate as it is a lot of fun. Roleplaying enables greater immersion in the Warhammer setting, and the ability to bring your characters to life by writing their behaviours and dialogue in any given situation.
We use OOC to describe being Out of Character, i.e. ourselves, the people behind the computers and talking about RL stuff.
We use IC to describe being In Character, i.e. the words and behaviour of our characters in the game.
We use /say to talk IC. So what you see in that channel is what your character is saying.
We use emotes to describe their actions and emotions; descriptive narrative. You can do this by typing /e then your text. For example, /e laughs at her enemy’s demise would appear in game text as (Your Character Name) laughs at her enemy’s demise
Dark Elves as a Race
Dark Elves are evil, there’s no question about it. As such, more adult and horrific themes can be expected as the storylines fall under the Dark Fantasy genre. If themes of horror and violence disturb you, then Druchii roleplay may not be for you.
Druchii are sadistic, hedonistic, selfish, intelligent, cruel, with a dark sense of humour, desire for power and revenge, lust for riches, and they abhor weakness. Their economy is based on conquest and slavery. Their army is well disciplined and merciless. They are experts in combat, masters of their own will, and are relentless, defiant, and courageous. They consider themselves to be superior to any other creature in Warhammer’s Old World, save the gods, and even then, they might challenge them.
The Dark Elves as a race emerged after The Sundering, an event in Warhammer’s lore when the Elves split after a civil war. Elves, mainly form Nagarythe, who swore allegiance to Malekith and Morathi, fled to Naggaroth and over time were corrupted by Chaos and their wicked behaviour to become the High Elves’ dark kin. It is their aim to put the rightful Phoenix King on the throne, and see the world under his dominion.
The main religion in Dark Elf Society is the Cult of Khaine, led by Hellebron. Depending on various accounts through Warhammer’s lore, other gods are also observed, with cults devoted to them existing. There is some mismatching following on lore changes over time; in earlier times, Khorne, Slaanesh, and Tzeentch were worshipped by some of the Druchii. In later editions, these were replaced by gods such as Khaine, Atharti, and Hekarti. In RoR it is accepted that Morathi’s cults could be secretly worshipping Slaanesh. However those canny Dark Elves that want to stay out of trouble would instead honour Atharti, patroness of the Pleasure Cults.
Dark Elves tend to live in a few cities around the Land of Chill. There are tribes of Shades or Autarii who live in the Blackspine Mountains, who are feral, cannibalistic, elves, and are shunned by their cousins in civilisation. They are expert trackers and assassins, and so their skills are valued for more covert operations.
Druchii are able to attune to magical forces around the Old World. Unlike their kin the High Elves, they don’t stop at using the Eight Winds of Magic, but use Dhar – a concentrated and dangerous form of corrupted raw magic. Raw dhar is found naturally in pools; in high volumes around Naggaroth, but also in places where magic pools and grows stale, for example in gloomy crags at the base of the mountains in The Shadowlands. Another form of dhar is made by the sorceress using their will to crush magic together and force it to do their bidding.
Dark Elves live shorter and more violent lives than their gentle cousins of Ulthuan. They age more-or-less as a human child would, but are considered adults at 30 years of age (their version of 18). 50 years to them is the human version of 21. Few live past 500, although those in a protected position or who live carefully and with good resources may reach around 1,000 years old. Anything over 1,500 is considered extreme old age and anything past this is incredibly rare, requiring sorcery of epic proportions. Don’t even attempt to proclaim that your character is this old unless you have a very good reason indeed for it.
More information on lore, magic, languages, and society will be posted in the Discord RP Tips page.
Roleplaying and OOC Behaviour
Do not use RP as an excuse to be an arsehole to fellow players. IC and OOC are two separate things. You and your characters are separate things. When you start projecting in game, you’ll start having problems. We will not tolerate people being jerks to fellow guildies under the pretence of roleplay.
If you are considering exploring disturbing themes, you must talk about what you’re considering with the players you are thinking of involving before starting your RP, so that all understand what’s coming and consent to it. Do not put them in situations that they will feel uncomfortable or upset.
How shocking is too shocking? Scenes of torture and murder, and romantic scenes with the movie rating of 12 are permitted pretty much in public channels. If you post anything extreme, you can be reported and earn yourself a ban. Anything featuring graphic scenes of rape, and cruelty to children is a definite no-no anywhere. I wouldn’t want anyone that enjoys this to be in my guild anyway. Twisted Druchii are fine, RL sickos are not.
The awkward subject of ERP, or “Erotic Roleplaying”. I accept that this happens, and as we’re all grown-ups, this is permitted as long as you keep it in private and all parties involved are consenting. I don’t want reports that people have seen a guild member getting his rocks off in emotes that are seen in public channels. Be respectful, and keep the details private. Don’t use it to humiliate other players. Do not pressure or harass members for ERP or get into a situation where you are sexually harassing them. If you are going to try this out, be mindful that anything on the internet can be screenshotted and things can get awkward if you ever break trust or have a falling out with your online ERP-buddy.
Remember, it’s rare that you know who is on the other side of that computer screen. They may not be who they say they are, so always be careful to keep yourself safe. If anyone is behaving in a way that makes you uncomfortable, talk to an Officer or Guild leader.
Druchii Behaviours
It is unwise for a Druchii to be openly resentful to their fellows as in their world, you don’t want to upset someone too much or else you’ll find a dagger in your back or poison in your water bottle. Veiled threats are more common than calling someone out.
Despite what you may think, murder is still banned. They’re just good at finding ways at offing their rivals through intrigues and manipulation.
Your ideas need to be fitting with the lore. If you’re not sure, ask and we can help you out to make sure it is authentic.
Roleplaying in a Convincing Manner
Don’t be a Mary Sue. That is a character that is indestructible, invulnerable, above-the-law, or has a ridiculous background. No, you aren’t Malekith’s lost lovechild with Alarielle. No, you aren’t 5,000 years old. No, you’re not the daughter of Hellebron, or Vaulkhar of Har Ganeth. Your character is inconsequential. They start off as a nobody within Dark Elf society, at best a minor noble of a small House, placed in the situation of joining an invasion force. It is through your adventures in RoR that their story will develop and their reputation and influence will rise.
Don’t go out with the intention to cause shock through ridiculous drama. It all needs to be within context of the situation that your character is in. People get bored very quickly by “attention seekers”.
If you lead your character into behaviours or a situation where they would certainly face death, punishment, or other consequences, then well... expect the consequences. Cause and effect should be as real in your writing as in real life. Nobody is untouchable.
Do not godmode. That is, you cannot force another character into a situation where they don’t have an option to react or decide the outcome. For example:
“Yutriss stabs Illdor in the head with his dagger” is godmoding and is not permitted (unless agreed with Illdor in /say that this is what’s going to happen).
“Yutriss draws his dagger and brings it down towards Illdor’s head, aiming to pierce his skull” is permitted as Illdor can then emote how he reacts.
We also have a systems for combat and tough decisions to help describe outcomes. This includes:
We can always lend a DM for any situations that require a third party to manage the situation.
Character Profiles
When you reach a point where you feel that you know your character well enough to write a background for them, write a profile and post it in the Character Profiles Thread. We are more than happy to help if you need a hand putting this together.
Last Words
Finally, have fun. If you have any questions, ask in the Discord RP channel and we’ll always help.

- Dice rolling in game (/roll 100) to decide on stats, or a successful action – although you have to type the result separately to those you’re roleplaying with as what you see in /say is bugged and appears differently to everyone!
- A gentlemen’s agreement where you discuss in /tell what you will be doing, how you will be emoting the situation, but both players must agree to what is going on.
We can always lend a DM for any situations that require a third party to manage the situation.
