- The flesh banners of Brass Keep rise once more, even as the land perishes beneath them. From mountain and forest surge the Tribes of Chaos and their misbegotten ilk, those who would see the lands of men despoiled: beasts and beast-men, northmen and un-men united under the golden fist of Erling the Thrice-Blessed of Slaanesh. He decrees that the hour of the Serpent has drawn close, that the town of Sokh must be destroyed. So is the will of the Prince. What then of his warriors, the nameless, or even the chosen few. What part is theirs to play in the Siege of Sokh? -
The Siege of Sokh is a much anticipated event in the course of the role playing story line of the Tribes of Chaos. Instead of role playing this grand event in-game as usual, it will instead take place as a writing competition. Each member (or participant in the story-line, or even a newcomer) can write their character's perspective in a short story. Each person's story will detail events as they are witnessed through the point of view (though not necessarily written in first person) of their own character, and give their perspective of the battle, as well as give emphasis to those parts and points of the battle where their character was especially involved or performed a Feat, placing another stepping stone towards victory and the desolation of the town of Sokh. The aftermath of this battle will be rped live in-game on Sunday, the first of December. Guidelines for participation in the competition and writing your parts are given below:
To qualify: To qualify for the competition, you need only write a short story ('short' in this case is not quantified, your story can be anything from a single paragraph and more) regarding the Siege of Sokh from the perspective (or at least focused on the experience) of a single character. This character could be anyone involved, although it is heavily recommended that members of the guild and people involved in the story line write about their own characters. (And writing about someone else's character is prohibited). For your story to qualify, post it in this sub forum ('Your Stories') and name the thread with your title, which should start with "The Siege of Sokh -" (e.g. "The Siege of Sokh - The death of Antonius" would be a valid thread name)
To be disqualified: Your story will be disqualified from the competition if:
-You derail your narrative from the general guidelines of the story too much (for example, saying that Chaos lost even though it won in the canon - These guidelines will be given below).
-You write something irrelevant.
-You mention another player character's actions without consulting with the person behind them first (thus force-rping them).
-You write your character as doing something over-powered. (Even though a Feat or achievement will be allowed for every character - consult with the judges if you are unsure whether you are writing something over-powered)
-You post the story at the wrong place or outside the allotted time frame.
-You do not take due precautions to avoid conflicting accounts with other stories.
-You plagiarize someone else's work.
The time-frame: You can post your story at anytime from today, the 20th of November, up to Saturday, the 30th of November. If it is found that this time-frame is too short, and by popular demand, an extension might be given. Also note that if you miss the time frame, you should still post your story, even if it does not qualify for a prize.
The judges: The competition and stories will be ranked according to the judgement and opinion of three impartial judges, whose stories (if they choose to write them) will be automatically disqualified from the prizes. These will include: Me, (Duvaindir/Erling, Khaine in the forums), Ithilsyn (Senthoi/Aasgeir, Drakira in the forums) and a third judge to be announced soon.
The Story guide-lines: Although it is encouraged that every person take artistic licence is describing in detail the happenings in Sokh, the places where the battle will rage and the enemies they will face, each giving life to parts of the setting to ultimately create a colourful tableau of the battle, care must be taken to adhere to the general course of the battle as it will be established in the guild's rp story canonical lore. Thus, the main parts of the battle, as well as the two sides are given here.
-The story begins with the exodus of the army from Brass Keep and their journey to Sokh. War machines prepared in advance, including catapults, shielded rams and siege towers are dragged through the mountain passes to the camp site outside Sokh, in the treeline just out of range of defensive mechanisms. (Chance encounters during the journey, any infighting or experiences with the rest of the troops, acts of subterfuge or espionage are examples of what can be included in this part)
-The next day, the town is surrounded and the siege begins. Catapults break parts of the wall, siege engines lead packs of warriors into fighting upon the walls and the main gate is opened by the 'blessing' of Aasgeir, who reveals his face to the gate-guards in order to have them open the door. Packs of beastmen are also goaded into some of the openings (In this part you can mention how you got into the city: fighting on the walls, in one of the parts destroyed by the catapults, or with the main part of the army through the gates, and any fighting that took place)
-There is fighting in the streets, buildings and plazas. Chaos breaks lose in the town, and everything is possible in this part. Explosions, sorcery, secrets, gods (ok maybe not gods) and demons, long lost lovers reunited in the burning city, anything goes - an opportunity to progress your characters stories.
-The fighting reaches its peak as the inner castle is breached. The Lord Castellan is slain (message me if your character is to take part in this) and the defenders morale is broken.
-The town is finally despoiled (Mention here any loot - not overpowered! discuss with me if in doubt - or post-battle happenings for your character. Note also that your character's part in this battle need not be successful, they could be wounded or otherwise! Be creative!)
-> The aftermath of the slaughter will be roleplayed live. Do not include it in your stories.
Forces:
Chaos: Player characters, minor officers, 1 unit of Slaaneshi chosen (20), beastmen (120), marauders (250), assortment of siege weapons
Sokh Defenders: Lord Castellan Joseph von Sussberg, minor heroes, halberds and spear men (200), Handgunners and archers (100), wall-mounted cannons
Note: As part of the artistic license, you can include encounters with any minor heroes (such as a Bright wizard or Warrior Priest - acting as a foil to player characters) or other small types of units that might get involved (for example, three knights that were trapped in the city and are rallying citizens in a tavern to resist the invaders). Again, be creative. There is no point in many people describing only the events I mentioned above in various levels of detail. Instead, focus on your character and create a special and unique story for them in this setting! Points will be given for creativity in the selection of the winner. Speaking of which:
The prizes:
1st place: 20 in-game gold and an important character appropriate rp reward
2nd place: 10 in-game gold and a lesser rp reward
This is an opportunity to write out an epic moment in the Tribes story in all the glory it deserves, without limitation by the game engine. I look forward to reading your entries!
